Types of Water Treatment

CLEAN WATER DRINKWater treatment is an important concept both in the United States and around the world. Growing populations demand increasing amounts of clean water and shortages are common from one area to another. This article will highlight some of the more recent advances in water treatment and discuss how it has impacted the world and specifically certain regions.

Traditional Water Treatment Options

Traditionally water treatment centered around filtering out water and returning waste water to the water supply through a process that had several different elements to it. The process started with filtering out large particles, then by passing the waste water through finer coal filters, adding chemicals to kill bacteria, then sanitizing the water through a variety of processes including reverse osmosis as well as other filtering processes that are too complex to be outlined here.

Cutting Edge Water Treatment Options

While these methods provide sanitized water to drink, there are new modern ways of producing water from salt water through desalinization techniques that are the cutting edge in water treatment. Desalinization water treatment options help to convert the extensive ocean water to drinking water. While this has always been technically feasible by capturing the run off steam of boiled water the process was inefficient and not convertible to massive waste water treatment techniques. In other words, it was technically impossible on a large scale and impractical to be used around the world.

Technical advances have changed this. Israel is the leader in these new technologies and have advanced techniques for water treatment through desalinization that seek to change that and bring salt water back into the realm of water usage.
